Round Up: Small Wooden Stools

Let’s talk about the unsung hero of the home: the small wooden stool.

I originally wrote this post five years ago, and it has quietly become one of the most-read pieces on my site. Which honestly delights me — because it proves that sometimes it’s the simplest pieces that make the biggest difference.

The links in the original post are long gone (RIP to some very good stools), so I’ve updated this round-up with fresh, currently available favorites. But my affection for the humble wooden stool hasn’t changed a bit.

At last count, I still have no fewer than five floating around my house.

One stays close to my leather swivel chairs — the perfect landing spot for morning coffee. Another lives near the front porch swing, holding whatever book I’m currently reading (or a glass of sparkling water if I’m pretending it’s a fancy afternoon).

Years ago, one sat by the bathroom sink so my grandson could reach the faucet. He’s now nine and no longer in need of the lift… BUT, we have a new grandson who will be putting it back into service soon enough. I love that! Isn’t it lovely the way a simple piece of wood quietly becomes part of family rhythms?

Upstairs, a couple of round wooden stools move wherever they’re needed:
– lifting a plant closer to a window
– helping me reach the top shelf of the closet
– holding a folded towel by the tub

What I adore about a small wooden stool is this: it takes up almost no visual space, but it works incredibly hard.

It’s low profile. It’s versatile. It layers beautifully into a room. And it carries this unspoken message of hospitality —
“I’m here to be used. Please, make yourself at home.”

And if you’ve been around here long, you know I’m always chasing that feeling — spaces that feel lived-in, welcoming, and ready to serve the people in them.

So yes. I’m still a fan.

Below you’ll find my updated round-up of favorite small wooden stools that are available right now. Tell me — are you team stool too?

Now for the Round Up!

I’ve put together a round up of some of my favorites for you. Check them out! Which one(s) do you like best?

Tip—Double-check the dimensions to be sure it fits the goal you’re after before purchasing! Sometimes the online photo makes it appear larger or smaller than it is in real life, kinda like your rearview mirror.
