Elevate Your Dining Experience: 6 Compelling Reasons to Switch to Cloth Napkins

Hey there! Ever considered swapping out your paper napkins for cloth ones?  Here’s six solid reasons why you might want to give it a shot:

1. They’re Beautiful

I’m a sucker for textiles, and cloth napkins have textile beauty in spades. I tend to be less is more in a lot of areas, but not in the cloth napkin department! My family makes fun of just how many I own. But here’s the thing, they all get used. And because I have a selection of neutral choices, as well as patterned and print ones, they have a way of working together when I need extras.

2. They Instantly Elevate Even the Simplest of Meals

There’s something about a table set with cloth napkins that takes a simple meal up a notch. Suddenly, the grilled cheese sandwich becomes a moment to sit and savor food and company.

Even a snack becomes a moment to relish when served with a special napkin.

tip—I love white dishes for several reasons. One of my arguments for white serving ware is you can easily change up your table linens and napkins to fit the mood and the season.

3. They’re Multi-purpose

I use my napkins for more than just table-setting.

FOR INSTANCE—

In the mornings, when the coffee is ready I lay out a napkin on the counter and sit on it my coffee carafe, cream, coffee cups (and sugar bowl if there’s anyone in the house who takes sweet stuff in their java). Even when the kitchen isn’t sparkly clean this little touch lifts the mood.

Plus, when I’m having a dinner party or a social gathering I use napkins to layer linens on the table and serving areas. They offer an easy way to add color and texture. And, as a result, they give visual interest to the presentation.

Also, they’re perfect to throw in the bread basket before you add your biscuits or other bread items. Not only does the cloth help to keep the bread warm—yet let it breathe—it also makes the bread presentation festive.

4. They’re Eco-friendly

Because they’re reusable, cloth napkins are eco-friendly. Therefore, you can feel good about cutting down on waste.

In our household we already have so much recycling and garbage, finding ways to cut down on that feels good. Therefore, cloth napkins were an easy choice.

Plus—

5. They’re Long-lasting and Cost-Effective

Investing in quality cloth napkins pays off in the long run. They’re durable and built to last through countless uses and washes.  I have sets that have lasted me for years. Which leads me to my next point—

6. They Hold Special Memories

Cloth napkins have a way of capturing special moments and memories. I have a set my daughter brought me when she moved home from Uganda. Another set we used to celebrate Thanksgiving with friends who are about to move to Hawaii. Lots of memories!

Others I picked up on a really fun day out shopping with my mom. Or the set on my table on a daily basis. There’s something about the consistency of them in my kitchen that adds to the important and grounding routine of family life.

Your turn— do you use cloth napkins? If not, have I given you enough reasons to convert to a cloth napkin household?

Here’s some of my current favorites!
